Ibiza’s Eclipse: Simply Spellbinding

There are some incredible sunsets in Ibiza and then there are moments in time – when nature decides to up the ante and really show off.

Last night was one of them.

As the clouds began to roll in, there was a genuine fear that Ibiza’s much-anticipated solar eclipse was going to be hidden from view. The atmosphere changed from excitement to desperation.

And then, suddenly, the clouds parted.

What followed was extraordinary.

BOOM! Like a slap around the face when you least expect it, the eclipse emerged just over the horizon, with the moon swallowing the setting sun, as thousands gathered along the coast watched in jaw dropping silence. Then came the gasps. The reaction of the crowd said everything.

A natural reaction to a natural phenomenon and somehow, the timing couldn’t have been more perfect.

The sun slowly disappeared towards the horizon, still partially visible through the orange haze – like a half eaten Jaffa cake – while the sea reflected the fading light. A surreal moment, Ibiza doing what Ibiza does best – providing a backdrop that feels out of this world.

A total solar eclipse. At sunset. In Ibiza. In August.

Absolutely spellbinding and on an island that knows a thing or two about incredible entertainment, this was quite simply from another planet.
